Past News from RBM

A wonderful wet afternoon in Wainsgate

We have a few videos from our recent gig at the historic Waingsate Chapel in Hebden Bridge - check out the magnificent organ and marble pulpit! In honour of their triumph over civil society in the recent EU elections, this performance of 'Jabbering Away, in Their Own Language' is dedicated to those stalwart supporters of the United Kingdom Independence Party valiantly defending the grim backwaters of Middle England from the corrupting influences of foreign languages.

More videos from this gig on our videos page.

The sound of the Troika!

We've been selected to be the sound of the (spoof) Pan-Europe Troika Party - motto "Trust us, and you will never have to vote again". What with our song being called 'Troika' it was a natural fit. They've translated our song into eight languages and put together this video featuring DJ Lagarde:

Review in The Crack

...and elsewhere

The title track from our EP, The Desert, got a spin on BBC Introducing in York and North Yorkshire on February 2nd. We also got a (brief) review in Newcastle's national magazine The Crack (see right, click to enlarge). And we're now on Twitter (@ReasonBreeding) and Soundcloud too.

The Desert

Our latest EP: The Desert

Here it is, as launched to a packed house at the Fulford Arms on Friday November 29th: our new 4-track EP "The Desert".

Listen to the stream from bandcamp below or go there to download it (for any amount you'd like to pay). Real physical editions available at our gigs or by special pleading (contact us online). Lyrics to most of the songs can be found here on the website.

Our new CD will be called 'The Desert'

Just so you know. First pressed editions will be available at the Fulford Arms gig on Friday November 29th. Recordings will be available here on our website soon after.

Lord of Misule Bath Balls

Also, we're indebted to high street smell producers Lush who have, a little belatedly, cashed in on the runaway success of our first single, Lord of Misrule.

We're in the studio again

Look out for some new recordings turning up in the autumn.

Playing for the Peace Pilgrims

The 2013 Peace Pilgrimage set off from Iona on May 19th to London to call attention to the massive military spending on our ongoing nuclear programme during a time of austerity for the majority. There will be a public event in York on June 29th (500 miles along the 756-mile route!) to welcome them and hear more about the march and the Trident nuclear system.

We're flattered to say that we've been asked to play at the event. As those of you who've been to recent gigs will know, we've been playing the old CND marching song "The H-Bomb's Thunder" in our sets of late, which may be why. Come down and hear more about the pilgrimage. We'll see if we can't put a swing into their strides for the last 256 miles.

The event will be at 7:30pm at the Friends Meeting House on Friargate, York, on Saturday June 29th. Free entry but donations welcome.

Radical Statistics and more media

Thanks to all who came along and packed out the first ever Radical Cabaret on February 23rd. Hope there'll be many more of them.

A few more media treats for you - we've uploaded all the old Atheist Advent demos onto Bandcamp, with one song making its debut on the web (and finally replacing the rough mixes on Reverbnation) - and you can see can three new videos from our single launch back in October over on the videos page.

'Santa' getting festive radio plays

One of the b-sides to our first single, "Santa, I've Been Good (So Bring Me A New Government)", has been played on BBC Introducing York and North Yorkshire and on Vixen FM (community radio station based in Market Weighton).

For the next couple of days you can hear the BBC show via iPlayer or the Fox's Den show podcast from Vixen FM (we're on in the third hour).

Still waiting for someone to play the A-side...

New gig news soon!

Atheist Advent 2012 is here

Atheist Advent 2012

Reason Breeds Monsters is taking a mini-break to write new material. You can keep up with the progress of Ben Young's Atheist Advent project on his website. For a fourth year he's writing, recording and uploading a new song every day of Advent - which was the origin of much of Reason Breeds Monsters material.

If you're missing us, you'll be able to hear our track "Santa, I've Been Good, So Bring Me A New Government" on the Christmas edition of the BBC Introducing show for York and North Yorkshire on BBC Radio York on December 22nd.

Lord of Misrule - Our first single

We're proud to announce our first single: Lord of Misrule. Available now to buy or download from this very website.

Lord of Misule Cover

The CD features two b-sides: "Santa, I've Been Good, So Bring Me A New Government", and "Wikileaks vs. The Independent". You can buy the actual physical object from us at any gig, or if you can't wait that long, get along to Your Emporium, the community pop-up show on Micklegate. The CD sells at £5 - though we'll sell it you (at a gig) for less if you're a student, unemployed, an anarchist or anti-cuts campaigner!

We've also got a limited 'supporters of the band' edition for £10, which features numbered prints of a woodcut designed for the band by Paris-based artist Mateo Lecorre. Pick it up at a gig or drop us a line if you'd like one.

For those of you who like your music digital, you can download or play it right here.
